In YouTube Years…

youtube

So, I used MATHS earlier (I know?!) to figure out that if the ‘72 hours of video footage is uploaded to YouTube every minute‘ theory has been true since it launched the Partner Program in 2007, then we’ve uploaded 36,215 YEARS worth of footage to the site in 8 years*.

On a human history timeline working backwards, this predates pottery, domesticated dogs, and almost the first ever cave paintings.

At the current rate, it’ll only take 27 years of uploading to have uploaded more footage (in years) to YouTube than humans have existed (200,000 years), but realistically it will be quicker than that because…

*The 72 hours per minute fact was revised to 100 hours per minute last year [which I’ve factored into my 36,215 figure]. If this continues to increase, we’ll hit 200,000 years of footage much sooner than 27 years.

I AM FASCINATED. Maybe I’ll make an infographic.

End of post. As you were.
